A city of living heritage

From the night 600 years ago when the seonbi spilled flames over the river, to the yard where the common people in their clothes threw their delightful satire at him, to the millennial study where incense still rises — Andong is not a museum named 'Heritage', but a village that still lives and breathes.

Haebyeol Shin Gutal Play (UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity)

It was designated as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in November 2022 as "Korea's Talchum". It is a disguise derived from the Dongje (Seonshin-good) ritual of praying for the village's well-being to Seo Nang-sin of Hahoe Village, and the repressed feelings of the common people were solved through hacking by satirizing and overturning the identity order. If you wear a mask, your identity disappears — On both the peninsula and under the Baekjeong, you satirize the world equally.

Confucian Bookplate of Korea (UNESCO World Records)

The 12th World Record Site in South Korea, listed in 2015. There are 718 types of wooden tablets deposited by Seowon out of 305 items, a total of 64,226 tablets stored at the Korea National Studies Promotion Institute. The core values highlighted by UNESCO are 'Publication of Communities by Public Opinion' — the collective intelligence of an intellectual network that has been around for more than 500 years is embodied in the booklets.

Andong's World Heritage Site is also the cradle of Hangul. Toegye's "12 Dosan Songs", "The Dark Side", "18 Songs", Hunminjeongjeong Haeryeonbon, Woni-mom's letter with the desperate heart of a Joseon woman, Hahoe Village's inner bangs and letters, and Korean scriptures such as Wolin Seokbo — see the journey of Hangul that has been kept and spread in World Heritage in the 2026 Festival Exhibition.
